Why the name Don Bosco?
Don Bosco, whose real name was Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco (1815-1888), was an Italian Catholic priest, educator and founder of the Salesian congregation of Don Bosco. He is best known for his work with disadvantaged young people, whom he helped through education, vocational training and moral support. Don Bosco developed a teaching method based on kindness, trust and reason, known as Salesian pedagogy. Today, his work continues throughout the world via Don Bosco schools, oratories and educational centres.
