On Saturday, 25 October 2025, from 5 p.m. onwards: come and discover Mexico's traditional Day of the Dead celebrations in Tournai!
The Festival de la Mort qui Tue (Festival of Death that Kills) has its roots in the Mexican tradition of celebrating the Day of the Dead and offers a broader reflection on death. Too often associated with gloom and Halloween, All Saints' Day deserves a more colourful and festive approach! Initiated by the Achtli Company, the Festival has its roots in Mexican tradition (Día de los Muertos) and offers a broader reflection on death in partnership with several associations and institutions in Tournai.
Programme for Saturday 25/10/2025 :
- 3 p.m.: Welcome at the Maison de la Culture to prepare for the procession. Make-up workshop, flower crown making + other surprises.
- 5.15 p.m.: Departure of the procession of the dead from the Maison de la Culture in Tournai with giants, pre-Hispanic dances, percussion, puppets and other characters from Mexican tradition.
And special guests >> LA BANDA DE ALIENTOS SAN LORENZO : a junior marching band coming especially from Mexico, 14 MUSICIANS to share with the people of Tournai the richness of the traditional music of their country and region. These talented young people bring us the authentic sounds of Mexican folklore and the magnificent region of Oaxaca with energy, freshness and cultural pride.
