A month of August full of discoveries in Tournai
Throughout August, Tournai invites you to enjoy a summer programme combining heritage, culture, crafts and music. Guided tours, craft markets, flea markets and concerts will bring the "City of Five Bell Towers" to life and offer plenty of opportunities to (re)discover the town in a different light.
Guided tours to explore Tournai
Guided tours of the UNESCO Quarter take you to the heart of Tournai’s iconic monuments. Starting from the Tourist Office, this one-hour walk allows you to discover, amongst other things, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Belfry, the Grand-Place and several gems of the historic centre.

Guided tours of the Pont des Trous. This tour, lasting around 1½ hours, gives you exclusive access to the curtain wall connecting the two towers and offers unique views of the city. The tour starts on the Quai Sakharov side.

Flea markets, crafts and culinary delights
On Saturday 8 August, two events await visitors:
- the Kain flea market, from 7am to 5pm, with 300 stallholders spread throughout the village streets;
- the ‘5 Clochers’ second-hand fair, from 8am to 6pm, on Place Paul-Émile Janson and in the streets of Center of Tournai.
On Sunday 23 August, the Grand-Place will once again host ‘Des Livres et Vous’, a major second-hand book fair.
Finally, from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August, the Provençal Village will return to Place Paul-Émile Janson. Over thirty stallholders from the south of France will be offering local produce, culinary specialities, crafts and the scents of Provence. The market will be open:
- Thursday 27 August from 10.00 to 19.00;
- Friday 28 August and Saturday 29 August from 10.00 to 20.00;
- Sunday 30 August from 10.00 to 18.00.
Musical events
The Tourist Office will be hosting several free piano concerts featuring the renowned musician Philippe De Smet on Saturday 8 August at 3.30 pm and on Saturday 29 August at 2 pm and 3.30 pm (free admission).
The belfry carillon will ring out every Sunday in August at 3.30 pm (9, 16, 23 and 30 August), as well as on Saturday 15 August at 3.30 pm, to mark the Feast of the Assumption. The concerts can be enjoyed from the carillonneur’s room, the Vieux Marché aux Poteries, the MuFIm garden or the Grand-Place.
Finally, the École des Arts will host the ‘Midis du Quatuor’, chamber music concerts lasting around 35 minutes at 12.30 pm on 17, 19 and 21 August. Admission: €10 (€5 concessions, free for under-12s).
